SHERBORNE

Another year on and as ever the Sherborne Branch continues, to not only exist but flourish with a number of new members. Of course we have also lost one or two, whom we very much miss, but it is nice to have some of the original members from the days of Mrs Trevett.

Our monthly meetings have had a great variety of speakers, including 'Deers of Dorset', 'Children of Fiji' and an interesting talk about Clapton Mill, Crewkerne. Roger Oxford on bread and bread making and to end the year at our December meeting we had a beetle drive which was very popular. Our tea lady Rex became Secretary for the evening and wore a tie - thus when our members come to the meetings in future and Rex is wearing a tie HE IS IN CONTROL (unlike the normal secretary who is seldom in control). We were also given a lovely party at one meeting for two of our memberšs diamond wedding anniversary.

Our annual evening to Glanvilles Wootton WI for supper and entertainment was tremendous as always - always well supported by our members. We also had an invitation to Pitcombe again for a cream tea so kindly given to us by the Peppiatts who have a wonderful house and grounds. Tina Foot (a former Committee member and driver of the ambulance, who brought in several new members) gave a coffee morning for us at her house, which helped funds considerably. Unfortunately we didn' get to the Carol Service due to a transport muddle but we will certainly make 2008. Our Christmas Dinner was held at the Crown Inn again and they did us proud as before. Our entertainment was The Yetties (a little crowded for them, but of course they didnšt mind) who as always were charming and relaxed in their home town. Finally a huge THANK YOU to Dave Rees (and Mrs Dave for taking messages) for driving the ambulance to our monthly meetings. Also to Rex for driving the ambulance for outings, Rex and Pat - tea ladies and Pat and Gwen for the extra help when the secretary was ill.

A big thank you too, for the support of the Lions Club, with Brian and Diane, in particular, for helping us when needed. And last, but least thank you to Head Office for all their support. Thus a good 2007 for Sherborne and we wish all branches a very good 2008.
